地震は現地時間24日午前3時36分ごろ発生した。震源の深さは10キロ以下で非常に浅い。1回目の地震の後、連続の余震が続いたという。余震の最大マグニチュードは5,4だ。

地震により、ラツィオ州アマトリーチェでは、大きな被害が出ており、人々が倒壊した建物の下敷きになっていると伝えられた。

イタリア中部のアマトリーチェの市長は、「町の半分がなくなった。多くの人々がガレキに埋まっている」と述べた。

ラツィオ州、マルケ州、ウンブリア州の町でも倒壊などの被害が確認されている。RaiNews24が報じた。

現時点では、イタリア国営放送協会によると、少なくとも24人が死亡した。
